Gigabyte X79 UD3 and UD5 Final Design Motherboards Detailed

Gigabyte X79 UD3 and UD5

Here are pictures of the release-grade revision (1.0) of Gigabyte's socket LGA2011 motherboards in its main linuep, the GA-X79-UD3 and GA-X79-UD5. These are the release-grade 1.0 revisions, that are redesigned for X79 chipset with just six SATA ports (doing away with SAS). With the LGA2011 motherboard lineup, Gigabyte is doing away with the "UD7" model, in its segment there is GA-X79-OC. We saw this coming, because UD7 was meant to be an overclocking motherboard identifier. On the company website, for example, the product page of GA-X58A-UD7 (2.0) shows GA-X58A-OC as a "newer model". The GA-X79-UD3 is poised to be the most affordable LGA2011 motherboard from Gigabyte, while the GA-X79-UD5 offers some premium connectivity and memory expansion features.

ECS announces Brazos-powered HTPC motherboard

Elitegroup Computer Systems (ECS) is the latest manufacturer to launch an HTPC motherboard armed with AMD's new Brazos platform. The company's Mini-ITX HDC-I board comes with a single or dual-core E-series APU (codenamed Zacate) and the Hudson-M1 chipset. Both the E-240 and E-350 APUs combine Bobcat processing cores with Radeon HD 6310 integrated graphics and offer plenty of performance for HD video and 3D graphics.

In our recent review of the competing Asus E35M1-M Pro motherboard, we found the AMD E-350 to be more powerful than systems driven by the Intel Atom 330 and Nvidia Ion. The Fusion chip provided a snappier experience during basic use and it outmuscled the Intel/Nvidia duo in virtually every 3D application we tested. Cramming the CPU and GPU cores in one chip is also more power efficient, with the E-series APUs having a mere 18W TDP.
