Last week during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics announced the release of Galaxy Tab 10.1, the bigger brother of its 7-inch Galaxy Tab tablet PC, which will be distributed in a large number of markets exclusively on the airwaves of Vodafone.
Some more info on the device's availability started to emerge, with Vodafone Portugal expected to launch it sometime in March with a price tag of €699 attached to it.
The wireless carrier already went official with its plans on the matter, and even confirmed that it would have exclusivity on the tablet PC in Portugal for a month.
Moreover, it seems that the new tablet PC would become available for purchase in Spain too in the near future, and that some info on its cost in this market emerged as well.
Vodafone Spain is expected to launch it at €349 on a 18 months contract on its unlimited data plan at €39 per month, with 5 GB of traffic included into the mix. The carrier would have a three months exclusivity on Galaxy Tab 10.1, it seems.
The new tablet PC arrives on the market with Google's new Android 3.0 Honeycomb operating system on board, a dual core Tegra 2 application processor clocked in at 1GHz, and the large 10.1 touchscreen display.
The new device also comes with an 8.0-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with HD video recording capabilities, as well as with 3G HSPA 21,6 Mbps connectivity capabilities, and with Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth, GPS, and more.
As stated above, the tablet PC arrives on shelves with the new Android 3.0 Honeycomb OS on board, which was designed specifically to fit the larger screens of these devices.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 also offers support for various Google Mobile Services, as well as for applications available for download via the Android Market.
The device should soon arrive in even more markets around the world, even in those where Vodafone won't launch it.
