While Transcend is dealing with new solid state drives, SanDisk is promoting a different sort of Flash-based storage solution, namely a new SDHC memory card meant for photo cameras and video capture.
The newest SDHC memory card that SanDisk came up with is dubbed SanDisk Extreme Pro SDHC UHS-I. It is based on the most recent SD specifications, SD 3.0 as it were, and can operate at impressive read and write speeds. For those that want numbers, 45 MB/s is the maximum upper limit that the newcomer can attain, according to SanDisk's press release. This should make shooting photos, even in continuous burst mode, more than easy to achieve.
Of course, the product would not be as impressive without an equally noteworthy capability to record Full HD (1,080p) video.
That said, the minimum sustained write speed is of 10 MB/s and SanDisk even went a step further, enabling support for 3D content.
"SanDisk has a long history of developing fast, highly reliable cards for photography enthusiasts and professionals," said Susan Park, director, retail product marketing, SanDisk.
"Our new SanDisk Extreme Pro SDHC card lets consumers take their skills to the next level by capturing high-resolution still images, fast-moving action shots and HD videos of the highest quality," she added.
The component that allows for this performance is a so-called intelligent Power Core controller, which has the advantages of data prediction and binary caching.
Finally, the card is temperature proof, water proof, shock and vibration proof, as well as resistant to x-ray and magnets and backed by a lifetime warranty.
The press release says the newcomer is already available, in 8GB to 32GB capacities, priced at $109.00 to $349.99. Those in need of such a card should also be able to find an adapter for SDHC and SDXC UHS-I cards, available for $49.99. The order page is here.
