HP Unleashes $899 Folio Ultrabook

HP Folio Ultrabook

HP has finally unveiled its first Ultrabook, the $899 Folio, which is clearly aimed at a business and enterprise audience and will go on sale in the UK from the 7th of December.

The device comes with a nine hour battery life, a solid state drive and hardware that secures content on the laptop's hard drive by encrypting it in the form of a trusted platform module.

The Folio is only 18mm thick (flat rather than untapered), weighs 1.5kg and has a 13.3-inch diagonal and is powered by Intel's second generation Sandy-bridge Core processors; no details as to whether the Folio will be i3, i5 or i7.

Like the new Toshiba Protege Z765, it comes with a 128GB solid state drive and according to HP, it will bridge the "gap between professional and personal life".

It has an SD card reader, a backlit keyboard, a USB 2.0 Port, a USB 3.0 port, GbE & HDMI ports plus a rather impressive finish that reminds us a lot of the Vostro V13; maybe Dell should launch its Ultrabook under the Vostro Vx series.

Lenovo, Toshiba, Acer and Asus have already announced their Ultrabook products already, but unless they manage to drop down prices significantly, Apple's MacBook Air is likely to remain the best ultrabook option on the market.
