There has been a lot of talk about Apple's competition becoming tougher in the tablet market with the introduction of a number of new devices; however, the Cupertino-based company still dominates the tablet market, as a recent study of web usage within the sector indicates, Slashgear reports.
The analysyis, conducted by Royal Pingdom, revealed that the iPad managed to get 87.6% of all global tablet web traffic in the first two weeks of November. Android tablets accounted for just 10.9% of web usage, while webOS and BlackBerry OS tied for third place with merely 0.7% each. To complement this data, a comScore report showed that in October iPads accounted for 95.5% of US tablet web traffic.
There certainly hasn't been a lack of trying from Android tablet manufacturers, with a whole range of devices from the likes of Motorola, Samsung and HTC. Blackberry has also entered the fray with the Playbook and there are a significant number of lower-end tablets from smaller manufacturers available.
Last month, Andy Rubin, Google's Android chief, declared that customers would find "a little more than 6 million Android tablets out there running Google's services" (compared to around 40 million iPads); which appears to suggest that iPad owners use their tablets more.
It will be interesting to see how Amazon's entry into the tablet market with the Kindle Fire, and Barnes & Noble's new Nook tablet, impact on Apple's lead.
