Hitachi has announced the industry's first 3TB enterprise class HDD, The Ultrstar 7K3000 drive spins at 7200 RPM, cased within a 3.5″ clamshell and is available in both, SAS plus SATA interfaces in capacities of 2TB or 3TB.
Hitachi Ultrastar 7K3000 HDD has features 7,200 rpm, 2 million hours of MTBF, 64MB of buffer cache, 8.2ms average seek time, and 29 dB sound output. The 7K3000 HDD is suitable for data centers, disk-to-disk backup, data warehousing, RAID arrays, massive scale out (MSO) data farms, cloud storage, and so on that require 24×7 availability.
The Hitachi Ultrastar 7K3000 family comes in 3TB and 2TB capacities, and is now shipping with a 6Gb/s SATA interface; the 6Gb/s SAS family will be available in mid-2011.
